Alkaline Water: What you need to know
What is alkaline water? Alkaline water has a higher pH level than regular drinking water. Because of this, some advocates of alkaline water believe it can neutralize the acid in your body. Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water typically has a pH of 8 or 9.
What are the benefits of drinking it? Alkaline water and its benefits are one of the newer trends to have made its way into the already overcrowded wellness and healthy eating world. Drinking Alkaline water, it is said, offers more health benefits than one. It helps slow down the aging process, regulate pH levels of the body, and prevent various chronic diseases. Alkaline water refers to neutralizing acid levels in the body, which normal water cannot do.
How alkaline water is made at R2 Medical Centers? First, our tap water is put through a reverse osmosis system that filters our water and removes any contaminants that might be in our local water. Then it is put through our alkaline water system that puts the alkaline charges into the water. The water typically stays “charged” for about 48 hours, sometimes a little longer if kept in a cool, dark environment.
Some of the health benefits that the company that provides our alkaline filtration system claims includes:
- anti-aging properties (via liquid antioxidants that absorb more quickly into the human body)
- colon-cleansing properties
- immune system support
- hydration, skin health, and other detoxifying properties
- weight loss
- cancer resistance
How often should I drink alkaline water? We recommend our patients drink it every day and strive to drink half of their body weight in water throughout the day, to help with the patients that come to us for help with losing weight and/ or getting out of pain.
